The 163rd session was the first session in three months. An inflamed knee was the main culprit for not having an April or May session. But also contributing to cancelling the April and May sessions was a lack of full crews. June saw us back on track and with quite a few changes to the layout. This was the first session with the new helix monitoring system, with support for smart phones (which was not used), with new decoders in the decapods and with aprons for the engineers to use to hold all of their paper work. This session had another apprentice which as usual outshined all of the FQOs. Several electrical contact issues were noted and these will be fixed before the next session. Some issues were noted with the decapods which will also be looked into before the next session. The helix monitoring system seemed to be acceptable. And the aprons seemed to be a hit and helped with keeping the (unread) paper work off the train room floor.
