Attendees: Dick Munnikhuysen (tpamym), Bruce Kaufman (whaym), Doug Barry, Mike Kipps (tppmym), Keith Pritchard, Glenn Downing (o), Wayland Moore (d) and Bill Mosteller (whym).
October 20, 2012 was one of those sessions that tries one's patience, but more on that later. The attendees arrived bearing olive branches or more accurately trees. At least that was their story. However the tree material was more suite to "O" or LGB scale than to HO scale so I respectfully rejected the offer. The operating session officially started with an announcement by the Dispatcher Wayland that an unexpected visitor had arrived in White Hall and intended to travel with the CEO to the steamer in Thorny Point. We had one almost new attendee, Keith Pritchard. This was Keith's second session and hopefully he will sign up for more. The dispatching was done very well by Wayland and the yard stayed what appeared to be under the control of Bill and Bruce. The CEO, with the political visitor, ran from White Hall to EPSCO at Thorny Point without incident and on time. An extra Hood Turn (commonly known as the "Pig Train") was also needed during this session and was handled by Keith. All of this action kept the operator Glenn very busy. If Glenn could just master the helix interlock buttons his life as an operator would be much less stressful! Now on to the frustrating problems. First the radio throttles didn't seem to want to work and never did consistently. Since I can not reproduce this issue when I'm alone in the layout room and it seems to be associated with the number of people in the layout room, I guess I will have to break down and install another receiver. And of course #43 decided to overheat. This engine has not done this for over a year. But once it does it and rests for about fifteen minutes it will run without issue for the rest of the day. Go figure. For the most part we got everything where it needed to be even with the radio and #43 problems. Now on to session number 100!
