February 18, 2012 - The 90th OPS session was the first session with some non FQOs in a long time. Doug Barry and George Gaige were the recipients of some cancellations and got on the Call Board. After giving the crew a lecture on why he was in charge (he was wearing a proper hat) the dispatcher started the day by sending out the Hood Turn early and clogging up Hood. You might think after 90 sessions someone who has attended at least 60 of them (I will not mention any names) would know the difference between his departure time from Broadway and his arrival time in White Hall. You might think that but you probably would be wrong. This miss read of the timetable by one of the more experienced engineers coupled with the early Hood Turn would have a major impact on the schedule for the rest of the day. Add in sending the observation car to Broadway on #20/21 which has never happened before, and should not have happened today, and the schedule got even more behind. Mike had a very "piggy" day getting assigned to both of the Hood Turns. Doug found out what the operator position was all about and is now only one assignment away from his FQO status. And George got introduced to the Stanley switching puzzle. Of course the layout couldn't let the attendees have all the fun so it decided to go into sleep mode from a static discharge. It then took down the same two switches (one in Furnace and one in White Hall) it usually does only during sessions and never in between. And for its final curtain call the power district for Thorny Point went out and didn't come back up after cycling the layout off and on. So it will be under the layout to see what is going on and most likely the purchase of a replacement circuit breaker. On a positive note all of the cars seemed to be in their correct locations and a lot of backlog was cleared. Hope everyone had fun!
