August 20, 2016 - The 142nd session was different in that I decided to fill the dispatcher's position. I wanted to see what the job was like and see if any improvements could be made. The job can be hectic at times, but I didn't identify any substantial improvements that would improve the situation. The biggest issue for the dispatcher is keeping ahead of what is going on and having a good idea of what orders are needed to keep things moving smoothly. Only time and experience will help with that. The layout ran well and an after session audit of car spotting showed very few issues. Mike and Glenn survived White Hall although I suspect stiff drinks were on order when they got home. All trains ran including two MOW extras. And the final passenger train, train #10, ran almost on time. Good job! The RF&P seemed to have it out for Wayland. More than once Wayland suggested to me that the interlock was not working only to get a green soon after. And the folks on the White Hall to Broadway passenger service were pleasantly surprised to find an observation car. The passengers might have been pleased, but E&P management was not!
