CEO moves, MOW extras, train order system printer problems, engine problems, holding the mail express for a local extra, a wanton disregard for signals and orders and a complete destruction in the faith of mankind set the tone for the 124th OPS session held on January 17th. It seemed every engine that Mike tried to use was reluctant to run. The CEO's engine #20 stopped in the helix only to start on its own when a flash light was shinned on it. (Acting more like a rat than an engine.) The Kipper was pushed from Hood to White Hall more than it ran on its own. And #43 decided to over heat and shut down. (It had been over a year since it last did this.) But after cooling down it behaved for the rest of its assignment. The ink cartridge in the train order system printer would not print. Luckily there was a spare on site. And faith in mankind was completely destroyed when Cookie Monster (AKA Bill) showed up with NO COOKIES! On the positive side, the CEO arrived in White Hall almost on schedule, the MOW extra was run without incident, and all scheduled trains ran within their two hour rule so no additional orders were needed. Philip did an excellent job as dispatcher and Dick and Bill kept White Hall on schedule. I did give a fairly lengthy opening overview most of which was ignored. And the meaning of red signals is still an elusive concept. But I hope everyone attending had fun. I know I did.
